Celebrities with Cushing’s?

Over the years we have talked about how “nice” (nice doesn’t really apply to Cushing’s so maybe that should be “helpful to the cause”)  it would be to have a celebrity spokesperson, someone famous who has Cushing’s.

I’ve always thought that Jerry Lewis looked like he had steroid-induced Cushing’s, Liz Taylor has looked Cushie at various times. There’s new evidence that King Henry VIII might have had Cushing’s.

Today, for the first time, I have read of a person (unknown to me, but he seems to be “someone”) who has admitted that he has Cushing’s.

Travis Michael Holder writes at http://www.entertainmenttoday.net/content/view/892/28/:

During the rehearsals for Besarab, I went through two cataract surgeries, lost another major chunk of chunk, and grabbed a cane to combat the last steroid-induced indignity to my body, a severe muscle and joint syndrome called Cushing’s disease.

What do you think?  Any other celebrities that you’ve heard of with Cushing’s?  We need  a spokesperson already!

  1. I've been studying dynastical history for over 20 years and always thought Henry VIII was classic Cushing's.

    • Thanks, Ann. I've seen news articles to this effect, too. One of them is here: <a href="http://cushingshelp.blogspot.com/2009/02/king-hen…” target=”_blank”>http://cushingshelp.blogspot.com/2009/02/king-hen

Best of luck to you with your research!

    • Roseanne bar? I remember a line about her hump being a trait in eastern European women. It stood out because I’d never seen it outside my family. First heard of cushings today. She does have a round face.

    • I know you wrote 6 years ago, but I just found this. I just had a doctor suggest I get testing. I’m a historian, well versed in the Plantagenet and Tudor periods. I’m very curious about your theory (the article link below is dead). Certainly there was dramatic weight gain and a fairly round face, but it’s usually attributed to a 1536 injury which never healed combined with a massive food intake (kitchen records survive). Is there more to suggest a diagnosis? I’m still learning about the symptoms. If you get this, please email me gypsydonovan@yahoo.com just put Henry VIII or Cushings in the heading. I’d love to hear from you.

  2. A spokesperson is good but media exposure via shows like 'Dr. Oz' or 'The Doctors' is priceless and may produce a sponsor raher than just a spokesperson! Social networks are the way of the future. Does anyone know whether a 30 second radio commercial about Cushing's Syndrome qualifies as a (free?) public service announcement? Let's THINK BIG!

  3. Elvis! His doctor has revealed details of his ailments.
